Your guide to (successful) underwater sex

Jouw gids voor (succesvolle) onderwaterseks

Can we all just admit that underwater sex is just...not that great? We're not saying you shouldn't try it. We're just saying we think we all need to get real about this fantasy that we may or may not have only seen in movies.

It's dry (even though you're literally soaking wet), it's slippery, and you may or may not feel like you're getting waterboarded half the time. But boy, it doesn't have to be that bad.

Let’s face it: Despite the insanely dry vag and the constant fear of getting waterboarded, there’s still something seriously sexy about getting freaky underwater. Below, we’ll answer all your underwater sex questions so you can finally have the underwater sex of your dreams. You’re welcome!

I've never done it underwater before and I'm a little nervous. What can I expect?

Just because the water is wet doesn’t mean you will be. The biggest misconception about underwater sex is that because it’s wet everything will slide together perfectly, but in reality, water makes things a lot harder.

Having sex underwater can wash away your natural moisture (and lubrication), so using lube is essential. Morse specifically recommends using silicone lube so that "things can slide along more easily."

How do I make underwater sex more fun and less… shitty ?

Swap your fantasy of doing it in the water with doing it by the water. Compromise! Truth be told, sex by the water is better than actually being in the water. So make sure you have towels nearby if you decide to take the sexcapades to land. If you continue outside of the water, you’ll still get the sexy aesthetics of being in the water, just a little better and more comfortable.

If you're absolutely determined to do it below sea level, we recommend making the experience more fun by bringing your favorite sex toy (just make sure it's waterproof) and using plenty of lube.

I'm really scared of getting some kind of nasty water disease from having sex underwater. How do I keep it clean down there?

Avoid sex in public waters (sorry!). It can lead to yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis.

The good news is that your bathtub and shower are probably a safe bet in terms of waterborne illnesses, except that you still have to be wary of getting a bladder infection from vaginal dryness. If a penis is diving in and out of you and you don’t add lubricant, you could experience vaginal dryness, which can lead to bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection.

To be honest, I feel like underwater sex is a bit awkward. What positions can I try to make it more fun?

Well, it depends on what kind of water you're in:

Pool : Doggy style and standing positions work best underwater in a pool. You can grab the edges of the pool for support, or use the steps to sit down.

Bathtub : Sit on your partner’s lap, with each knee over one of their legs. This gives them ample access to the clitoris. If you’re looking to perform oral sex in the tub, we suggest having your partner sit on the edge of the tub while you sit in the tub or kneel underneath to perform oral sex on them.

Shower : We recommend oral sex here, where one partner kneels away from the water and the receiver is underneath, so they can feel the water pressure and the sensation on their penis or clitoris at the same time. If you don’t want to do oral sex, we recommend a three-legged stand. One person (the giver) stands on two legs and lifts one of the other person’s legs up to their waist.

What are the best waters to get freaky in?

It may sound very vanilla, but your shower (with lots of lube) is probably the winner in our opinion. We hate to squash your underwater sex dreams, but most bodies of water come with their own unique risks. Beware of salt in the ocean, bacteria in lakes, and chemicals in pools and hot tubs. Oh, and let's not forget that public sex is illegal, folks... sorry, we don't make the rules!

In any case, sex in the water is exciting and a nice change, have fun and good luck!
